Creating a forum to sell later

I’m sure there is someone here who have sold a forum for profit. One writer friend said that a dynamic forum can sell for thousands of dollars. Pardon my ignorance on this matter but I was really surprised that a forum can cost that high. Anyway, if that is true then maybe a forum is a good business. Create one, get members and then sell. But I know it is easier said than done.

Yes, forums can sell for thousands of dollars—or even more—depending on their traffic, engagement levels, revenue streams, and niche. A well-established, active forum with loyal members, organic traffic, and monetization potential can be a valuable digital asset.

However, creating a forum just to sell it isn’t as easy as it sounds. Forums require consistent engagement, community management, and high-quality content to stay active. Many forum buyers look for sites with:

✅ Strong, organic traffic – A forum with regular visitors and a solid SEO foundation is more attractive to buyers.
✅ High user engagement – Forums with active discussions and a loyal user base hold more value than ones relying on bots or inactive accounts.
✅ Revenue generation – A forum that already earns money through ads, premium memberships, or sponsorships is easier to sell.
✅ Good moderation & structure – A well-maintained community with clear rules, dedicated moderators, and smooth operations makes for a smoother transition to a new owner.

At Forum-Promotion.NET, the Best Webmaster, Admin, & Internet Marketing Forum, we’ve seen forum sales happen at various price points. Some forums sell for a few hundred dollars, while others go for five or six figures, depending on their value.

Would you ever consider building a forum to flip it for profit, or would you prefer to grow a community long-term? ??
